Self portrait in Acrylic on Canvas: This was a quickly executed last-minute entry for a self-portrait show at the Gage Academy in Seattle. Total time spent on the painting: about 2 hours for the bulk of the portrait, and then another 2 hours fine-tuning the eyes to @#$@%^$%#  'focus correctly'.

And here it is hanging in the show:

Figure Drawing: Putting it all together (Charcoal on Paper)

18"x24" Charcoal on Paper

This drawing is based on a 2-hour long pose. (It's not a contiguous 2-hours, instead the models take a break every 15-20 minutes to stretch and walk-about. When they resume the pose, they inadvertently introduce variations in posture, light/shadows, and position, that introduces subtle challenges in keeping the drawing consistent. One reason why drawing from a live model is very different from drawing from a photograph or an inanimate object).

Figure drawing 101: 2 Minute Poses (vine charcoal on newsprint).

Below are some "2 minute poses" drawn from live models. [Models are given a two minute timer and allowed to pick a pose that people then draw from]. 2 minute poses are primarily meant to be 'warm-up' exercises. IMHO more interesting than these drawings are the poses themselves that the models choose to pick.
